Product description
The six chairs are made of Wengé wood with upholstered seats. The heather light-grey Kvadrat fabric creates a beautiful contrast with the dark Wengé wood. The chairs blend seamlessly into a variety of interior styles, from Mid-Century Modern, Japandi and Brutalist to contemporary interiors.
The set is in very good condition. The wood shows only minimal signs of use.
The interior construction of the chairs has been completely rebuilt professionally and subsequently reupholstered. Nowadays, the original natural materials are in most cases replaced with polyurethane foam or cold-cure foam when furniture is reupholstered. This is mainly done to reduce material and labor costs. For these dining chairs, however, durability in terms of both materials and lifespan was prioritized.
For this reason, the chairs were deliberately rebuilt using 100% natural materials. These materials have a lifespan that can last for generations, while their firm structure allows them to retain their shape exceptionally well. The chairs now offer a rich, substantial seating experience, unlike foams, which deteriorate over time and do not retain their shape as well.
The natural materials are also healthy and breathable, unlike foams, which are made from petrochemicals and may continue to release chemical compounds over time. The wood of the chairs has been given a touch-up with furniture oil, giving them a fresh and renewed appearance.
The chairs have been upholstered in Kvadrat upholstery fabric (Remix 3, colour 0126, 100,000 Martindale), composed of 90% wool and 10% nylon. From a distance, the fabric appears to be a solid colour, while up close it reveals subtle details and tonal contrasts. The dust cover attached to the underside of the seat is made from 100% grey cotton jaconas fabric.
The chairs are not labelled with a maker's name, but the underside of the seat is branded with the number “2-16” (this is no longer visible due to the reupholstery).
They bear similarities to the Wengé dining chairs designed by Martin Visser for ’t Spectrum in the 1960s, the vintage chairs by Fristho Franeker designed by Arnold Merckx and executed in Wengé wood, and the dining chairs by Gerard Geytenbeek for AZS Furniture.
