Product description
In the mid-20th century, Limoges continued to do what it had admirably done for nearly two hundred years: transforming porcelain into an everyday object without ever diminishing its precious character. The porcelain remains entirely white. Across this white surface runs a very deep cobalt blue band, edged with a fine gold line. The design is repeated on both the cups and the saucers and is sufficient to establish the entire identity of the set. This combination of blue and gold is no accident. Cobalt has long been a part of the vocabulary of fine European porcelains. Its intense color visually contrasts with the whiteness of the paste and creates a particularly pleasing setting for the gilding. The design here offers a sober interpretation, adapted to the tastes of the 1950s-1970s. These are true teacups, wide and relatively low, with a gently rounded body resting on a small footrim. Their generous opening immediately distinguishes them from coffee cups, which are narrower and taller. The delicate handle extends this silhouette without making it feel heavy. The reverse bears the stamp "Porcelaine d'Art, Limoges France", accompanied by the "Limoges France" mark. This stamp links the set to the Limoges porcelain production of the post-war decades. The cobalt and gold lend it a timeless quality. The design is understated enough to complement white dinnerware, antique silverware, or crystal. Complete 12-piece set.
