This is a set of five Plia folding chairs, designed by Giancarlo Piretti for the Italian manufacturer Castelli in 1967. The design is internationally recognized as an icon of Italian design, partly thanks to its ingenious and elegant three-point folding mechanism. The chairs are made from a frame of chromed steel tubes, combined with a seat and backrest of woven rattan, also known as Viennese caning. The design is not only aesthetically refined but also highly functional; the chairs can be folded to a minimal thickness, allowing for efficient storage. The Plia chair is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, confirming its status as a design classic. The set is in good vintage condition, reflecting the character and history of the objects. The materials show a patina consistent with age and use, which contributes to their authentic appearance. The construction of the chairs is solid and functional. These versatile chairs fit seamlessly into various interior styles, from Mid-Century Modern to contemporary.
