Product description
Set of 4 Danish dining chairs by Arne Vodder, model 430 for Sibast, designed in 1960 with a matching dining table. The chairs are an example of Midcentury Modern Danish design, characterized by their elegant lines and superb joinery, and the use of high-quality materials. The chairs are expertly crafted from solid rosewood, with a warm deep color and striking wood grain. The seats are upholstered in black wool worsted, which complements the sleek design. The floating seats and curved backrest provide good ergonomic seating comfort, seat height 46 cm. The set is in good condition, retaining its original finish and the characteristic patina of the rosewood. The construction is sturdy and the upholstery is used but neat, indicating careful use over the years. One of the chairs has a visible repair, see last photo. The matching dining table has the same rounded detailing as the chairs and comfortably seats 4 people when closed. When extended, the table doubles in size and can seat 8 people. The table measures 100 x 100 cm when closed and 200 x 100 cm when extended. The tabletop has been professionally refinished with a durable UV- and water-resistant lacquer, preserving its original appearance. Sold exclusively as a set. Arne Vodder was a student of Finn Juhl. His designs are characterized by calm, clear lines and rounded corners. His furniture was found in embassies and the United Nations. Presidents Jimmy Carter and Anwar Sadat owned furniture by Arne Vodder. Vodder designed for renowned Danish furniture manufacturers such as Sibast, Fritz Hansen, and Cado. Arne Vodder, along with Aage Schmidt-Kristensen, Niels Moller, Ib Kofoed Larssen, Poul Cadovius, Kai Kristiansen, and Johannes Andersen, belonged to the Second Danish School.
