Product description
This set of four Thonet chairs, model Long John, is an iconic example of European furniture design from 1978.
A 5th chair is available upon request.
The chairs combine the classic elegance of bentwood with the timeless appeal of woven cane, resulting in a silhouette that is both historically rooted and strikingly refined.
The chairs are crafted from dark brown wood, which forms a rich contrast with the light, natural hue of the cane seats and backrests. The construction displays the characteristic wood bending technique for which Thonet is known, featuring flowing lines and a striking high backrest crowned with a circular detail. One of the chairs in the set is designed as an armchair, offering a subtle variation in the arrangement. The chairs bear the marking 'THONET 78', confirming their origin and year of production.
The set is in good condition, commensurate with age and use. The woodwork has developed an authentic patina, and the canework is intact, testifying to the durability of the design and the careful handling over the years.
These Thonet Long John chairs look excellent in a classic or eclectic interior. They make a stylish addition around a wooden dining table or can serve as characterful accent chairs in a living room or study.
