Offered is a set of four Costes chairs, an iconic design by Philippe Starck for the Italian manufacturer Driade. This model, originally designed in 1984 for the eponymous Café Costes in Paris, is immediately recognizable by its enveloping silhouette and distinctive three-legged structure.
The chairs are made with a curved shell of black-grey veneer with a very beautiful grain. The frame is made of black lacquered steel tubes, which provides an elegant contrast and a stable base. The seat has a fixed cushion upholstered in black leather, which contributes to seating comfort. These chairs were produced in Italy, as indicated on the underside.
This set is in very good condition, with a character consistent with careful use over the years. The leather of the seats shows a slight, natural patina and some creases that emphasize the authenticity and life of the furniture piece. The wooden shells and metal frames are structurally sound and well-maintained.
