Private sellerProduct description
This is a swivel chair designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller. The piece is an example of the iconic La Fonda chair, a design that holds a significant place in mid-century modern history. The La Fonda chair was originally conceived in 1961 for the interior of the La Fonda del Sol restaurant in New York, a project overseen by Alexander Girard. This chair features a unibody shell with integrated armrests, upholstered in a white or cream-colored leather, set upon a four-star swivel base made of metal. The design is celebrated for its low back and compact, organic form, which was a departure from the Eameses' earlier shell chairs. The overall condition of the chair is consistent with its age and history, showing a characterful patina developed through years of use. The structural integrity remains sound, and the piece retains its original form and functional swivel mechanism. With its timeless aesthetic, this chair can serve as a distinctive accent piece in a home office, a reading nook, or as part of an eclectic dining set. It complements interiors ranging from classic Mid-Century Modern to more contemporary or minimalist spaces.
