Small, familiar objects that have today become witnesses to a nearly vanished domestic craft, these four thimbles belong to the world of traditional sewing. All different, they feature fine, dimpled surfaces designed to guide the needle and slightly distinct profiles. Over the decades, the metal has acquired beautiful shades, from antique yellow to more coppery tones, giving each its own unique patina. Long indispensable, the thimble accompanied both daily sewing tasks and more delicate needlework. Modest in size but omnipresent in sewing kits, it is today sought after for what it reveals about the gestures and habits of the past.
