Private sellerProduct description
An iconic mid-century set, consisting of three Armchairs model 415 and a coffee table model 535, designed by Wim Rietveld for Gispen. These designs, from 1954 and 1953 respectively, are prime examples of minimalist Dutch Design and were awarded a gold medal at the 10th Triënnale van Milaan.
The Armchairs, later known as model 1401, have a slender metal frame and are upholstered in striking primary colors: yellow, red, and dark blue. The armrests are made of bakelite. The matching coffee table, nicknamed 'de Mug', has a black metal frame, a glass top, and a distinctive yellow, round base plate that provides a playful color accent.
This set has a special provenance, as it was acquired by its first owners in 1960. The upholstery and foam of the chairs were professionally replaced approximately 25 years ago, and the coffee table is fitted with a new glass top. The overall condition is good and consistent with its age, retaining the character of the original designs.
With their clean lines and functional aesthetic, this seating group is a statement in any interior. The set fits perfectly in an environment with a preference for Mid-Century Modern, industrial, or eclectic design, and functions both as a cohesive whole and as individual design elements.
1 of the chairs has a stain, 1 chair has a bad spot in fabric.
