Product description
This is a set of three original chromolithographs from circa 1870, created by the British artist J.W. Ludlow. The prints originate from the monumental reference work 'The Illustrated Book of Poultry' by Lewis Wright, a standard work on poultry breeds from the 19th century.
Each lithograph, printed on paper, depicts an award-winning breeding specimen of a specific poultry breed, detailed in a rural setting. The works were published in London by Cassell, Petter & Galpin and printed by the renowned firm Vincent Brooks, Day & Son. Including the frame, each work measures 29 cm in width and 32 cm in height.
The prints are in good condition consistent with their age, with bright and vibrant colors. They are uniformly framed with a passe-partout in a wooden frame with a mahogany look. A label from a Dutch antiquarian bookseller on the back confirms the origin, technique, and dating, contributing to the authenticity of the set.
These natural history prints form a characteristic wall decoration, suitable for both a classic and a rural interior. The set can be hung as a group in a study, hallway, or kitchen-diner to create an atmosphere of English tradition and history.
