Product description
A set of two original Cesca chairs, designed by Marcel Breuer and produced by Thonet. This iconic design combines an industrial chrome-plated tubular steel frame with the natural warmth of wood and woven cane. The chair, originally known as model B32, is a prime example of Bauhaus design and is known for its revolutionary cantilever construction that offers subtle suspension.
The design dates from 1928 and represents a milestone in furniture history through the use of materials and techniques that were groundbreaking at the time. The frame is made from a single continuous steel tube, providing both flexibility and sturdiness. The seat and backrest are made of a light wooden frame with stretched Viennese caning, also known as cannage. This combination of materials creates a light and transparent appearance.
These specific pieces, marked 'THONET 81', date from 1981 and are in good vintage condition commensurate with their age and use. The chairs have retained their structural integrity and authentic character. The overall appearance testifies to a rich past and a timeless design.
The Cesca chair is a versatile piece of furniture that effortlessly fits into various interior styles, from Mid-Century Modern to contemporary and eclectic. They function excellently as Dining chairs, but can also serve as an elegant office chair or as a solitary object in a living room or bedroom.
The chairs are 46 cm. Wide; 79 high and have a depth of 57 cm.
