The "Sandows" chair embodies the industrial progress of the 1920s. It consists of a tubular steel construction incorporating elastic parts. This chair remains the best-known design by the esteemed French designer and architect René Herbst (1891-1982).
This iconic 1928 work has been given a place of honor in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, a testament to its enduring importance in the history of art and design.
The MATERIAL from which the seat and back of the chair are made is known as "sandows," which is the French term for rubber bands.
