2 x Gispen 1401 Armchair | Wim Rietveld | 1954
This iconic armchair, Gispen model 1401, is a design by Wim Rietveld from 1954. Produced by Gispen in Culemborg. The chairs offered here are original, featuring a steel frame finished in Gispen Grey. The seat and backrest are upholstered with black wool from Kvadrat. The armrests are in perfect condition in the original black Bakelite. The lacquered steel frame shows signs of age, whereas the upholstery, on the other hand, has barely visible signs of wear.
In 1954, Gispen model 1401 was introduced at the 10th Milan Triennale and awarded a gold medal there. A chair with a sleek design that was innovative for its time. As a design icon, the chair remained incredibly popular. As of 2026, it is still beloved and back in production. Features
