This ceremonial mask dates from the mid-20th century (approx. ). With its rare, almost square proportions of 25 x 24 cm and a bone-dry weight of 600 grams, this mask is in a fabulously beautiful, unrestored condition. Archaic Iconography & Brutalist Aesthetic This mask excels with its powerful, abstract simplicity and serves as an intense historical focal point and exclusive wall art in any modern or high-end interior: Monumental Adze Carving: The large, sculpted almond-shaped eyes stand in powerful high relief on the face, featuring deeply drilled round viewing holes. The bridge of the nose is angular and wide, adorned with traditional horizontal incisions that extend to a minimalist, open mouth slit. Layered Crust Patina: The entire surface is covered with a dull, jet-black to dark-brown sacrificial crust (crusty patina). This layered skin of organic sacrificial pastes and deeply absorbed soot from ceremonial hearth fires forms irrefutable proof of its pure antiquity.
