This late nineteenth-century desk lamp exemplifies the transition into early twentieth-century lighting design, featuring a distinctive brass and glass construction. The piece is defined by its elegant silhouette and the canonical Art Nouveau influence visible in the frosted glass shade, making it a highly desirable addition to curated interiors. Crafted during the 1890s, the lamp features a solid brass base that supports a delicately patterned glass shade. The frosted glass is etched with a subtle botanical motif, diffusing light softly to create a warm, ambient glow. The fixture is completed with a modernised black fabric cord, ensuring contemporary functionality while respecting its historical origins. The gold-toned brass and white glass present a classic colourway that highlights the material quality of the era. The lamp remains in good vintage condition, retaining its structural integrity and original character. The brass base displays a natural, unpolished patina that speaks to its century-long history, while the glass shade is preserved without significant structural faults. It functions beautifully as a practical lighting instrument. This historical lighting fixture serves as a refined accent piece for a traditional study, a classic library, or a modern home office seeking a touch of heritage. It pairs seamlessly with rich wood furniture and other antique decorative objects, anchoring the space with its enduring design legacy.
