Mid-Century very rare overpainted nightstands / matching chair by Kuperus / model called 'Horatio', pictured in the 1964 'Goed Wonen' magazine, catalogue, pg 60 / The fine teak material makes a perfect complement to the thin black metal frames / which create a floating, light appearance / The clean, angular shapes are very symbolic of post-war European design / reflecting the new era of Danish style-inspired furniture. During the sixties, the Dutch company Kuperus was clearly influenced by the designs of Auping (Carrelle series), Cees Braakman, Pastoe (Japanese series), and Hans Wegner.
