Product description
Two Arne Jacobsen "Myren" Chairs – RH Danmark, 1950s – Recently Reupholstered.
A pair of one of Scandinavia's most iconic seating designs: Arne Jacobsen's "Myren" (The Ant), produced by RH Danmark. Sculpted aluminum frames with organic molded backs, renewed in black leather upholstery.
The Design:
The Myren (1952) is pure Jacobsen: an exercise in organic modernism distilled to its essence. The chair dissolves the boundary between form and function—the back flows without breaks, the arms emerge naturally from the frame, the base is minimal yet perfectly stable. It remains as revolutionary today as when Jacobsen designed it for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen.
Manufacture & Provenance:
Stamped RH Danmark on the base—authentic Danish production. The tubular aluminum structure is period-correct; the wooden armrests show the aged patina typical of 1950s construction.
Condition & Transparency:
Recently reupholstered in black leather to professional standards. Both chairs are structurally sound; bases are stable and show honest aging (surface oxidation consistent with age). The reupholstery brings these pieces back to functional life—a significant investment in preservation.
What This Means for Value:
Original upholstery commands premium prices. These chairs, with renewed upholstery, offer the Jacobsen legacy at a more accessible entry point—perfect for collectors prioritizing function and design authenticity over pristine originality.
For the Collector:
Myren chairs rarely appear in pairs. This is institutional design brought into domestic or office use. The reupholstery is an act of honest stewardship, not a liability.
