These two Montereau Ironstone plates are the remnants of an elegant Belle Époque toiletry accessory. Dating from around , they are decorated with the famous Vieux Rouen pattern, emblematic of the great French faience factories of the late 19th century. Originally, they were joined by a brass mounting designed to hold tumblers or various toiletry accessories. This mounting is no longer present, revealing the two faience plates which retain all the fineness of their decoration and their period charm. Today, they can attract a collector wishing to restore an antique set or inspire a decoration enthusiast eager to give them new life. They will easily find their place in a cabinet of curiosities, a characterful bathroom, or an interior where antique objects still tell a story. More than 120 years after their manufacture, these plates bear witness to the refinement of Belle Époque toiletry accessories and constitute a fine example of the craftsmanship of the Montereau factory.
