2006 Šípek Drenthe Glasses Sold Out On First Day! The Museum Shop of the Drents Museum in Assen had to turn away visitors wanting to buy a so-called 'Drenthe Glass' by Šípek on the very first day of the exhibition ‘Borek Šípek. Glass, Design, Architecture’. The world-famous designer had created a ‘Drenthe Glass’ and a ‘Drenthe Goblet’ specifically for the Museum Shop for sale. Because these were exclusive glasses (a so-called limited edition), they were produced in a limited run of 100 and 300 pieces respectively. Even during the festive opening last Sunday by the former President of the Czech Republic, Václav Havel, and the subsequent preview for the Friends of the Drents Museum, these glasses proved to be selling like hotcakes. On Tuesday, the first day the exhibition was open to the public, the remaining glasses were sold out quite quickly due to the large influx of visitors. Borek Šípek has since been asked to design two new glasses for sale. The designs differ from the first series but will also be released as a limited edition. This coming week, the Ajeto Glass Factory in the Czech Republic will be working at full capacity on this new series so that they can be delivered to the Drents Museum next week. The Museum Shop expects to be able to sell the new glasses starting Friday, March 31, 2006. These glasses have the same prices as the first series. Visitors have the opportunity to register for these unique ‘Drenthe glasses’ now at the Museum Shop. It is not possible to make reservations by telephone. It is not known whether this concerns the first edition.
