Product description
This is a pair of Costes chairs, an iconic piece of postmodern design created by Philippe Starck in 1984 for the Italian manufacturer Driade. The chair was originally conceived for the interior of the Café Costes in Paris, and its distinctive three-legged silhouette immediately secured its place in design history.
The design features a gracefully curved plywood shell, finished in a warm wood tone that highlights the grain. This enveloping backrest is supported by a tripod base of black lacquered tubular steel legs, a structural choice that prevents tipping and creates a unique visual profile. The seat is a fixed, padded cushion upholstered in black leather, providing comfort within the sculptural form.
This pair of chairs is in a good, well-preserved condition, showing character and a light patina consistent with their age and history. The wooden shells and leather seats have been maintained, and the structure is sound. The overall presentation is one of authentic, gently used design classics.
These versatile chairs are suitable for various settings, from a dining room to an office or as accent seating in a living space. Their timeless design complements modern, eclectic, and minimalist interiors, adding a touch of celebrated Italian design.
