Product description
These two small bowls embody all the charm of a French table from yesteryear, one where everyday crockery was still made by true porcelain houses and even the simplest pieces received meticulous decoration. This pair comes from Chauvigny, in the Vienne region, one of the important sites in French porcelain history of the 20th century. The red stamp on the bottom of each bowl bears the inscription Porcelaine France, F.D., Le Chauvigny, associated with Fernand Deshoulières and the production of Chauvigny. The factory is part of a tradition that began in the 19th century and was developed in the following century by the Deshoulières family. Chauvigny then became a true porcelain hub, producing renowned French tableware that would grace family tables as well as those of hotels and restaurants for several decades. Our two bowls belong to this world. Their silhouette is immediately recognizable. A small, round, deep cup, set on a discreet foot, adopting the traditional shape of a cider bowl. But it is especially their decoration that gives them such an endearing personality. On the white porcelain appear small, delicately colored fruits, arranged like miniatures. Purple plums, a golden pear, a pinkish apple, an orange, and small red berries, accompanied by green foliage. The motifs change as you turn the bowls, so that each one has several faces. A fresh, almost naive decoration, very representative of this French tableware from the 1960s-1970s, when manufacturers reinterpreted traditional forms with more colorful and familiar designs. The porcelain retains a beautiful luminosity and the set possesses that particular charm of objects that have survived several decades without losing their freshness. Diameter approximately 10 cm, height approximately 5 cm. These small bowls can naturally resume their primary function alongside a bottle of cider, but they are just as appealing on a table for some dried fruits, a dessert, or simply displayed in a collection of antique French tableware. A lovely pair of Chauvigny porcelain, bearing its factory stamp, a testament to an era when French tableware arts knew how to make the most ordinary objects infinitely charming.
