Two small antique stoneware jars that take us directly back to the kitchens and pantries of the first half of the 20th century, when these containers naturally accompanied food preservation and homemade preparations. Both feature a lovely turned, bulbous shape, accentuated on the shoulder by fine concentric lines. Their warm, nuanced brown glaze reveals the characteristic variations of these old utilitarian stoneware pieces. The small perforated side lugs allowed for a cord to be threaded through, intended to secure a closure. The original lids or closure systems are no longer present. The first, rounder and more squat, measures approximately 10 cm in height. The second, slightly more slender, reaches approximately 14 cm. Their differing proportions are precisely what give the set much of its charm. They bear the small irregularities and traces of time typical of objects that have truly served their purpose, without detracting from their character. Repurposed from their original function, they will easily find their place in a kitchen, on a shelf of antique stoneware, among some wooden utensils, or simply as small decorative objects with a French country spirit.
