Set of two Barcelona chairs, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for Knoll Studio
This set of Barcelona chairs was purchased at Lensvelt, Breda, and dates from the 1990s. The chairs are in good, original condition — befitting their age. One frame shows slight play; hence the sharp asking price. The structural quality and visual impact of the design are fully intact.
This iconic armchair, originally designed for the German pavilion at the Barcelona World's Fair in 1929, is one of the absolute highlights of twentieth-century design. The high-gloss chrome frame supports the quilted black leather cushions — a timeless contrast between gleaming metal and luxurious leather.
Authenticity is beyond doubt: the cushions feature the original Knoll Studio lining with a repeated logo, and the frame bears both Mies van der Rohe's engraved signature and the Knoll Studio stamp.
In a modernist or minimalist interior, these sculptural chairs come fully into their own as an architectural statement.
