This set of two antique hand-carved toy bears is an authentic example of traditional woodcarving from the former USSR. The objects display the distinctive craftsmanship techniques and characteristic design of Eastern European folk toys from that period.
The string on both is broken but can be easily replaced. With pistol measures 4 x 20 cm; with axe measures 14 x 9 cm.
Both figures are crafted from solid wood and feature a mechanical element that can be set in motion by means of a string and a wooden ball. One bear is depicted with a rifle, while the other holds a hammer. The original stamps with 'Made in USSR' and Cyrillic characters are still clearly visible on the underside, confirming their provenance and authenticity. The natural wood color accentuates the texture of the hand carving.
The objects are in good condition commensurate with their age and original use. Over the years, the wood has developed an authentic patina that contributes to the historical character of the pieces. The mechanical parts are still present. These decorative objects make an interesting addition to a collection of historical toys or folk art. They come into their own in an eclectic interior or as striking accents in a display cabinet.
