The portrait that gave Bowie a face for an entire era. One lightning bolt, closed eyes, complete silence.
Duffy photographed this session in 1973 in his London studio for the cover of the album Aladdin Sane. The red and blue lightning bolt came from make-up artist Pierre Laroche. The drop on the collarbone and the silky skin were created later in post-processing with the airbrush. The result became one of the most recognizable images in pop history, as stark as it was theatrical.
