Vintage Photography of the facade of De Bijenkorf on the Piazza in Eindhoven, 1969, the year of its opening. The building was designed by Italian architect and designer Gio Ponti and clad with a geometric pattern of green ceramic tiles — a design that was then compared to a punch card or an Italian chocolate box. More than fifty years later, in 2026, the BBC placed the building in a selection of eight colorful buildings worldwide, as an example of how color can transform the city. This photo captures the facade in its opening year, before it became an icon.
