Product description
Meissen porcelain group depicting Venus and Cupid, made in the 19th century. Ø 11 cm, Ø 14 cm, H 23 cm. Meissen porcelain is considered one of the earliest and most precious examples of European porcelain. Originating in 1710 in Meissen, Germany, this porcelain has, over the centuries, earned an international reputation for its quality, the refinement of its decorations, and its craftsmanship. The history of Meissen porcelain is closely linked to Johann Friedrich Böttger, an alchemist and ceramist who, after years of research, succeeded in developing a formula to create white, translucent porcelain, similar to Chinese porcelain, but produced in Europe. The Meissen manufactory quickly became famous throughout Europe, and its creations were admired and collected by royal courts and aristocratic families. Meissen porcelain is characterized by a fine and translucent paste, obtained through a blend of precious raw materials and a particularly long and complex firing process. The decorations are handcrafted by skilled artisans and are often inspired by nature, mythology, and history. Among the most famous motifs are flowers, birds, landscapes, and human figures. The Meissen mark, known as the "crossed swords," is one of the oldest factory marks in the world and represents a symbol of authenticity and quality.
