Product description
This 1960s coffee table is a distinctive design by Ib Kofod-Larsen, manufactured by the Swedish firm AB Saffle Möbelfabrik. The piece is highly desirable for its unusual material composition, pairing a classic Scandinavian modernist silhouette with a striking, highly textured surface.
The table features a robust wooden frame characterised by clean, straight lines and precise joinery typical of Kofod-Larsen's architectural approach. The focal point is the rectangular top, which consists of natural river stones and pebbles meticulously embedded within a clear resin. This technique creates a captivating visual depth, showcasing a multi-coloured palette of earthy browns, greys, and ochres against the dark wood base. Produced in Sweden during the mid-twentieth century, the design reflects a period of experimentation with organic materials within strict geometric forms.
The coffee table remains in great vintage condition, retaining its structural integrity and original character. The wooden frame displays a rich, authentic patina developed over decades, while the stone-inlaid top is well-preserved, maintaining its smooth, tactile surface. The piece stands as a testament to the enduring quality of mid-century Swedish manufacturing.
This table serves as a compelling centrepiece for a living room or lounge area. Its organic textures and modernist lines complement both mid-century Scandinavian interiors and contemporary, eclectic spaces, pairing exceptionally well with neutral upholstery and natural textiles.
