Born in 1885, charles dudouyt began his artistic career after studying at the germain pilon school. He painted, drew and made a living illustrating publications, notably for calmann-levy and l'assiette au beurre. In 1933, he moved to paris and, opting for a contemporary style, founded la gentilhommière, which includes a workshop and a store where he makes furniture, floor lamps and decorative objects.
