Spanish Christ corpus dating from the 18th century, carved in wood with original polychromy and gilding.
A highly expressive devotional sculpture with a beautifully aged surface, surviving red polychrome details, traces of gilding on the loincloth, and strong sculptural character. The face, hair, anatomy and drapery are especially well modelled.
The figure is preserved without its original cross and shows authentic age-related wear, including losses to the painted surface, small cracks, old mounting holes and areas of exposed wood.
Originating from Spain and later acquired in the French Pyrenees.
