Product description
Beautiful vintage armchair model ‘1611 Lotus’, designed by Rob Parry and produced by Gelderland in the 1960s. The Lotus is a later development of Parry’s original 1611 armchair from 1952, where the wooden frame was replaced by a slender metal base. This gave the design a lighter and somewhat more luxurious appearance.
This piece is the ladies' model, the more compact version within the Lotus series, recognizable by its lower back. The armchair has been carefully restored in our workshop. The metal frame has been repainted and the wooden parts have been thoroughly cleaned and refinished, bringing out the beautiful contrast between the dark metal and the warm wood.
The seat and back have also been renewed. The cushions have been fitted with new foam and re-upholstered in a soft, dark grey-blue wool upholstery fabric. The deep, understated color gives the armchair a calm, chic look and complements the combination of the dark frame and warm wooden details beautifully.
As you would expect from Rob Parry, this Lotus is also exceptionally comfortable. The soft cushions and relaxed seating angle make it an armchair where you can easily sit for hours. Exactly according to Parry's design philosophy: first the human, then the design. Pure and understated Dutch design, where comfort, craftsmanship and quality come together beautifully.
