Product description
An iconic Congo armchair, designed by Theo Ruth for Artifort in the 1950s. This piece is a prime example of post-war Dutch design, known for its ingenious and playful construction.
The design consists of two separate elements that slide into each other to form a stable and comfortable seat, without screws or fasteners. The chair has been professionally reupholstered with a high-quality striped velvet fabric in dark blue and golden yellow, adding a contemporary touch to the vintage frame. The base is made of solid bent wood, accentuating the organic shape of the chair.
Overall, the armchair is in excellent condition. The new upholstery is impeccable, while the original wooden frame shows a slight, authentic patina consistent with the age of the furniture. The construction is sturdy, and the chair offers a surprisingly comfortable, low seating position.
This Congo armchair is a characterful object that fits perfectly as an accent in a living room, reading nook, or bedroom. It is a distinct choice for an interior with a preference for Mid-Century Modern, Dutch Design, or an eclectic style.
