Product description
This is an antique Glastonbury chair, a characteristic piece of furniture made of solid wood, dating from approximately 1880. The design is a direct reference to the historical chairs that originated in 16th-century England, known for their constructive and architectural form. The chair is entirely made of dark stained oak, which accentuates the rich grain of the material. Characteristic of the Glastonbury model is its construction with an X-shaped base and continuous pins connecting the various parts. This robust construction, combined with the heavy, massive forms, gives the chair a Brutalist appearance that suggests authority and durability. The overall condition is good, in accordance with its age of over a century. The chair has a lived-in character and a deep patina developed through years of use, which contributes to the authentic and historical value of the object. The construction is still solid and functional. As a sculptural and historical object, this chair functions excellently as a standalone accent piece in a hall, study, or living room. It adds an element of timeless gravitas to both classic and eclectic interiors.
