Product description
A wall mirror from the 1950s characterised by an oval rattan frame composed of a succession of curved elements radiating around the mirrored surface. The design recalls the shape of a flower, with a light, open structure that highlights the decorative qualities of the natural material and gives the object a distinctive sculptural presence. The central section consists of an oval mirror set within a bent rattan frame, surrounded by closely woven bindings that secure the elements of the outer structure. From this frame, slender rattan canes extend in a regular sequence of curved arches, creating a geometric pattern that gradually expands towards the perimeter. The overlapping elements form a series of diamond-shaped openings, while the varying tones of the rattan and the visible joints emphasise the handcrafted nature of the construction. The openwork structure allows the wall to remain visible through the frame and creates a play of shadows that changes according to the lighting. The contrast between the reflective surface of the mirror and the rhythmic arrangement of the rattan gives the piece a distinctive decorative character, representative of the interest in organic forms and natural materials in 1950s furniture and interior decoration.
