Monumental Thai Sukhothai Buddha – 40 cm – 6 kg This impressive bronze statue is a masterful example of the Thai Sukhothai style, dating from the early 20th century (Rattanakosin period). The statue exudes the classic elegance for which Thai Buddhist art is known: a streamlined body, an egg-shaped face, and a refined, serene expression. With a height of 40 cm and an impressive weight of 6 kilograms, this is a solid masterpiece with a powerful spiritual presence. Bhumisparsha Mudra: The Moment of Enlightenment The Buddha is seated in the Mara Vijaya posture, with the right hand touching the earth. This symbolic gesture marks the moment of enlightenment, wherein the Buddha calls upon the earth to bear witness to his unwavering resolve. The statue rests on a richly decorated double lotus throne, placed on a sturdy hexagonal base. Authentic Casting Core and Patina The interior of the statue contains the original, fossilized casting core of ferruginous clay. This 'dino' (casting core) is a crucial characteristic of authentic Thai casting work and explains its enormous mass of 6 kg. The deep, dark brown patina on the bronze has naturally developed over time and gives the object a beautiful, aged luster.
