Product description
John Hutton was an American furniture designer, best known for creating a "transitional" design style unique to the 20th century, combining contemporary aesthetics with classical foundations. In addition to the innovation and attention to detail that characterize his creations, he is considered one of the most prolific designers of his generation, authoring thousands of models across more than twenty collections of furniture, textiles, and lighting, many of which are now in the permanent collections of museums across the country.
Described as a "national treasure" by the New York Times, Hutton is also recognized for designing classic forms that remain trendy after forty years of commercialization. In 1990, he was also one of the first furniture designers to adopt ecological manufacturing techniques, offering pieces upholstered with animal hair and cotton wadding rather than foam, using hardwoods from sustainably managed crops, and natural glues.
4-seater sofa from the Hutton line, upholstered in beige-grey, 2010s.
