Product description
This is a traditional Chinese sideboard, originating from the Shandong province. The piece is defined by its striking colour and classic form, making it a distinctive example of regional Chinese furniture craftsmanship. The sideboard is constructed from wood and features a multi-layered lacquer finish. A vibrant yellow topcoat is heavily distressed to reveal a black underlayer, creating a deep, textured effect. The design includes a configuration of four cabinet doors below three drawers, all fitted with traditional brass hardware. Its silhouette is characterized by a rectangular top with overhanging, upturned ends supported by simple carved spandrels, a feature typical of Chinese altar tables and cabinets. The overall condition of the piece is marked by its pronounced patina. The craquelure and extensive chipping of the lacquer are integral to its aesthetic, lending it an authentic, time-worn character that speaks to its history and use. The structure remains solid and functional, offering considerable storage. As a versatile piece of storage furniture, this sideboard can serve as a buffet in a dining room, a console in an entryway, or a media cabinet in a living space. Its bold presence and antique character would complement eclectic, Bohemian, or globally-inspired interior design schemes.
