Product description
Beautiful set of four vintage dining chairs, designed by Louis van Teeffelen and produced by the AwA Meubelfabriek in the 1960s. Although this model is often called the 'Scissor Chair', no known documentation can be found for it. In an old interior brochure, however, this model is referred to by Lebro Oirschot as the 'Astrid' chair.
This set comes from Antwerp and has remained in the same family since the 1960s. The chairs have been used with care and love, but after more than sixty years, they were due for a refresh.
Therefore, the chairs have been carefully inspected and restored, while retaining their original character. The frames are in beautiful vintage condition and have developed a rich patina over the years. A scratch here and there or a subtle dent is simply part of it and contributes to the charm and authenticity of the set. It shows that these chairs have been happily used for over sixty years.
The solid teak frames have been thoroughly cleaned and refinished, bringing out the warm wood color beautifully again. The seats and backrests have new foam and are upholstered with a high-quality green wool fabric, which beautifully complements the warm teak and gives the chairs a soft, luxurious look. Thanks to the wide backrest and comfortable seat, these are chairs on which you can effortlessly spend long evenings at the table.
What makes this model so special is its clearly scissor-inspired design. The design looks airy, while the construction is very heavy and sturdy. The organic lines, refined connections, and elegant proportions immediately reveal the hand of van Teeffelen. Clearly inspired by the Scandinavische esthetiek, but at the same time unmistakably high-quality Dutch design.
