Product description
Beautiful set of four vintage 'Boel' Dining chairs, produced by IKEA in the 1960s. An early model from IKEA's history, long before the brand grew into today's global furniture giant. The design strongly resembles designs by, for example, Farstrup, but also has something recognizably Pastoe-like.
This set comes from the first owner in Hoofddorp. She bought the chairs at the time together with a '1845' coffee table by Kho Liang Ie for Artifort and an SZ08/Osaka armchair by Martin Visser for 't Spectrum. The furniture remained in her possession for years and eventually became available again due to a relocation.
The chairs have been fully restored. The woodwork has been carefully cleaned, nourished, and refinished, bringing out both the warm oak and the dark teak veneer beautifully again. Slight signs of use and patina have been deliberately preserved and contribute to the authentic character of the set.
In terms of design, the chairs are quite sober, but it is precisely the proportions and details that make the design interesting. The wide, slightly curved backrest and rounded seat give the whole a subtly playful character, while the slender legs and open construction keep the chairs remarkably airy. The warm oak forms a beautiful contrast with the darker teak veneer of the seat and back, giving the design a bit more depth without losing its calm appearance.
A particularly nice set from the early period of IKEA, solidly made and with a design that still looks remarkably modern more than sixty years later.
