About this seller
Private sellerProduct description
This chair is an example of the Thonet S43 model, an iconic piece from the Bauhaus era designed by Mart Stam. It represents one of the first cantilever chairs in furniture history, an innovation that defined modernist aesthetics with its floating silhouette.
The chair's structure is made of chromed steel tubing, forming a continuous and fluid line that eliminates the need for rear legs. The seat and backrest are made of molded wood with a black lacquered finish, offering a striking contrast to the shine of the metal. This design is characterized by its formal simplicity, comfort, and material economy, fundamental principles of the Bauhaus movement.
Preserved in very good overall condition, this chair retains its structural integrity and original visual appeal. The black finish and polished chrome show careful use over time, with an authentic character that highlights its history. The chair bears Thonet markings, attesting to its authenticity and manufacturing quality.
Thanks to its timeless silhouette, the S43 chair integrates harmoniously into various environments. It can serve as a dining chair, office chair, or extra seating in a living room, bringing a touch of historical design to a contemporary, minimalist, or industrial interior.
