Piero Dorazio is known for his gestural, atmospheric paintings of grids, shaded with flowing brushstrokes and pulsating in color and texture. Born in Rome, Dorazio formally studied classical painting and drawing, followed by architecture; by the end of the 1940s, his presence in artistic and literary circles brought about the influence of Russian Suprematism, Constructivism, the Paris School, Surrealist Biomorphism and especially Italian Futurism - Dorazio was deeply influenced by Giacomo Balla.
