Product description
This three-step library stair dates from the 19th century and reflects the European Renaissance Revival movement. Constructed from solid hardwood with a warm medium-brown finish, the piece features sculptural side panels carved in high relief. The upper crests are formed as grotesque masks with foliate detailing along the top edge, while the curved front borders incorporate ribbed molding, small scroll stops at the middle step, and circular bosses above four-toed claw feet. The rear section is built with open vertical stiles and horizontal support stretchers beneath the upper treads. The rear legs show a slight inward curve toward the base. Each of the three fixed treads has a rounded front edge and sits between recessed lateral panels framed by mitered molding and visible metal screws. Arched cutouts along the bottom of both sides lighten the profile while maintaining a wide footprint on the floor. Its compact scale and sculptural woodwork suit a private library, a traditional study with tall bookcases, or a reading room where an authentic 19th-century step stool serves both functional and architectural roles. One claw is missing a piece; there are some imperfections and cracks. Solid structure. See images. Height 22.44 in (57 cm), Width 22.44 in (57 cm), Depth 25.98 in (66 cm); Step Height 6.3 in (16 cm)
