Product description
Superb and authentic set of 6 long-handled mugs
(or Pharisäer cups) in vintage stoneware, made in
Germany during the 1970s / 1980s.
This distinctive series comes from North Frisia
(Nordfriesland), a coastal region of the North Sea
in Germany. It is characterized by its tall cylindrical
shape, its nuanced beige clay, and its traditional
flamed dark brown salt glazing. The front features
the calligraphed relief inscription "Pharisäer",
surrounded by baroque volutes.
The "Pharisäer" (Pharisee) is a famous traditional
and comforting drink from this German region,
composed of hot coffee, brown rum, and whipped cream.
The tall shape of these mugs and their side handle
were specially designed to preserve warmth while
enjoying the drink through the cream without mixing it.
A rustic set of Crockery steeped in history.
