A beautiful piece from Digoin's decorative production, this large two-handled cachepot testifies to the renewal of forms and designs that accompanied French ceramics in the mid-20th century. Made of glazed earthenware, it features a generous and balanced, almost cylindrical shape, slightly rounded at its base and flanked by two side handles. Its deep brown glaze serves as a background for a particularly graphic design, composed of a multitude of stylized white motifs punctuated with touches of yellow and green. The application of the glazes creates small variations in texture and density, particularly in the slightly speckled white areas, giving the design an almost textile presence. This contrast between the warm brown of the glaze and the lighter glazes perfectly matches the 1950s-1960s taste for abstract designs or those freely inspired by the plant world. Digoin holds an important place in the history of French ceramics. The Burgundian town became a major production center from the 19th century onwards, before experiencing a remarkable diversification of its creations in the 20th century. In addition to tableware productions, decorative pieces thus emerged, with forms and glazes fully in line with their era. The cachepot bears the Digoin stamp molded into the clay on its underside, confirming its origin. With a height of approximately 17 cm and a diameter of 18 cm at the opening, its proportions give it a particularly interesting presence. Some traces of use and small marks of age are visible, particularly on the glaze and at the rim, without detracting from the overall balance of this beautiful antique piece. A Digoin ceramic with a particularly successful design, representative of this period when French manufacturers successfully introduced simple forms, colorful glazes, and modern graphics into post-war interiors.
