Product description
This is a watercolor by Joost van Rooijen (1928-2012). In its original frame. He created watercolors with a very unique technique. Sometimes a painting was only finished after several years. As is the case with this painting.
Joost gained early recognition, exhibiting in the 1960s, among others, in the Zonnehof (with Carel Visser), the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague (now Kunstmuseum Den Haag), the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven. Together with Aldo van Eyck, he won the prestigious Sikkensprijs in 1961 for his mural on the playground at the Zeedijk in Amsterdam. Later, in 1993, he had major exhibitions in Museum Boymans-van Beuningen in Rotterdam and again in the Haags Gemeentemuseum, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and in 2011 in the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven.
He also collaborated with architects as a designer and executor of monumental art projects in large buildings and public spaces. From 1958 to 1995, he completed approximately 60 large projects, including in the auditorium of the Technische Universiteit and the Ministerie van Transport laboratory in Delft (both van den Broek and Bakema), the Kantonaalhof in Amsterdam (Ben Loerakker), the Nederlandse Ambassade in Jakarta (Norbert Gawronski), Muziekcentrum Vredenburg (Concertzaal) in Utrecht, and the Ministerie van Sociale Zaken in The Hague (both Herman Herzberger).
