Special and documented sculpture of Jan van Ruusbroec, depicted as a writing mystic.
The model is by the Belgian sculptor Maurice Opsommer (1906–1980). The name “OPSOMMER” is clearly visible on the back of the plinth.
This type of sculpture can be found in the iconography of the Ruusbroecgenootschap / University of Antwerp. It was made of plaster and painted dark wood-colored and has a documented height of 34 cm – exactly the same height as this piece.
Numbered copies of this model are also known, including 4/50. No visible number is present on this piece.
