A sculptural and atypical piece, this imposing solid wood mortar accompanied by its very large pestle is a true object of character. Carved from a beautiful piece of wood with deep nuances, ranging from warm brown to almost black mahogany brown, the set presents a particularly rich material and a superb antique patina. The generously proportioned mortar has a deliberately irregular and organic shape. Its contours, thickness, and the marks left in the wood bear witness to artisanal work and give it all its authenticity. The 37cm pestle, particularly spectacular, perfectly complements the set. Its sculpted form, volume, and patina make it almost a sculpture in its own right. The deeply hollowed-out interior of the mortar shows beautiful variations in material as well as natural cracks and irregularities in the wood, which fully contribute to its wabi-sabi aesthetic, where the marks of time and imperfections become an integral part of the object's beauty. A piece that today transcends its primary function to become a true decorative and sculptural object. It will be particularly interesting in a contemporary, country chic, old house, ethnic, natural, or wabi-sabi interior.
