Hans van Ieperen (1909-1995) • Born in Rotterdam, lived on the Veluwe (Epe) from 1942 to 1946 and then in The Hague. Worked mainly with oil paint, watercolor, pastel and gouache. Created flower still lifes, forest landscapes, village views, figure representations, landscapes, marines, still lifes, fish still lifes, fruit still lifes, winter landscapes. In 1995, the Singer Museum Laren received 37 works by Van Ieperen into its collection, as part of the donation from the Groeneveld Collection.
Van Ieperen was primarily a painter of landscapes and still lifes. In the choice of his subjects, he limited himself to the elementary data from nature and his immediate surroundings. These elements, such as a forest in the snow, a cloudy sky, a farm, a church tower, a fruit bowl and a vase with flowers, repeatedly appear in his paintings. He always chose these seemingly simple motifs: "They always asked me about that, you with your little house, little tree, little animal. Yes, I said then, me with my little house. I stick to my subject." (...) "His paintings are always boldly and concisely composed."
