Product description
This glazed terracotta dish immediately catches the eye with the intensity of its colors and, above all, its striking central decoration, modeled in relief like the heart of a sunflower. The composition features a particularly successful contrast between a bright ocher yellow and a deep brown. In the center, the clay is shaped with a multitude of small indentations arranged radially, creating a dense and almost organic surface. The brown reappears on the rim and completely covers the exterior of the piece. This combination of warm colors, the deliberately expressive treatment of the material, and the highly stylized vegetal motif place this dish within the aesthetic of the 1960s-1970s, a period during which French workshops profoundly renewed decorative ceramics. Its treatment particularly evokes the spirit of Southern French and Vallauris productions, although a precise attribution cannot be made. Measuring approximately 17 cm in diameter and 3 cm in height, it has the proportions of a serving dish or a small presentation bowl. Its shallow depth particularly highlights the central decoration when the piece is placed on a table. Preserved in good condition, it features a brilliant glaze whose yellow and brown hues have retained all their intensity. The slight crazing visible in the enamel naturally contributes to the appearance of glazed ceramics from this period.
