This is one of those antique objects whose form is intriguing even before its use is known. This invalid feeding bottle, known as a "sick person's duck feeder," belongs to the history of domestic and hospital care from the early 20th century. Made by Digoin and Sarreguemines, with their stamp still visible on the underside, it was designed to allow a bedridden person to drink without needing to sit up. Its long spout allowed for gentle administration of water, herbal tea, broth, or other preparations, while the handle made it easy to manipulate for the patient. Its ivory earthenware has acquired a lovely patina over the decades, accompanied by antique crazing of the enamel that now emphasizes the piece's character. Its almost organic silhouette, with its rounded body and long, tapered spout, now makes it a unique decorative object, particularly interesting in a cabinet of curiosities, a collection dedicated to the history of medicine, or simply among other antique earthenware pieces.
